Ventosa or fire cupping is a therapy where the essential oil or cream is applied on the skin, and slide the glass cups on the areas that need to be treated and massaged with the cup – usually at the back part, the therapist will put alcohol, herbs, paper on the glass cup and set it on fire. As the fire goes out, glass cups are placed upside down on the skin. The hot air cools down to create a vacuum inside the cup. This cause the skin to rise as it is being sucked up. The skin reddens as blood vessels expand. The glass cup will be left on the skin for about 3 minutes. Cupping is used along with massage for effective results.
